Group Training Rides

Saturdays - From Starbucks - meet at 08:30 - depart no later than 08:35

We organise group road rides on Saturdays from Henley-on-Thames. If you are interested in finding out more about our club, then please come and join one of these sessions.

The ride is there to provide useful mileage for all levels of rider with sporting intentions – be that time-trialling, sportives, road racing or track.  Consequently the ride caters for different levels of ability.  We all roll out together and natural selection splits the group so you can settle in with a pace you are comfortable with. You can start at the front with the speedy boys and drop back to the next slower group if you find the pace too hard. Some riders are racing or doing sportives on Sundays so there will be some going fast on Saturdays and some slow and steady.  Rides are generally 2 to 3 hours duration depending on the group you fall in with. You can expect the speed to be between 20 km/hr (12 mph) and 28 km/hr (18 mph) depending on the group you join.

All rides start at Starbucks in Market Place and finish with coffee and cakes at the Chocolate Theatre Cafe on Thameside.

Sundays

There is no formal club ride on Sundays, but groups may be organised via the Forum.  Many members are now racing or riding sportives on Sundays.

Induction rides - new & potential members

Typically a Saturday ride, but by appointment with Blackett details below.

No-one gets dropped on an Induction ride as we ride at the tempo of the slowest rider - but we do ask that you do your best to maintain a good pace.  The objective of these rides is to give you a chance to understand what membership of G.S. Henley entails and what it takes to keep up with the flow in group rides.

More experienced riders are on hand to answer questions about the club, or how best to structure your training.  Rides are around 25 km and explore the hilly lanes around Henley.  Our aim is to give you a sense of achievement and a welcoming start to steady cycling improvement!
