July 2nd 10 Mile Time Trial Results
Following on from a wet and slippery prologue in Dusseldorf to mark the opening of the Tour de France. The A4 course at Maidenhead Thicket was the scene of the Tour de Force. A distinguished assortment of waifs and strays made the start line in sunny but breezy conditions.
What was to unfold was no less thrilling than the yesterday’s sporting extravaganzas.
First off in a class of his own, all the way from Lincoln Wheelers was Lez Young on a tricycle. As the riders took the countdown from Lord Hudson of Marlow and sped up the road the race started to take its shape, but then disaster struck…..
The thirteenth rider off rode straight into a parked car, unlucky for some (him to be precise). Fortunately nobody was seriously injured, and he wins this weeks Darwin award. Now just to put this in perspective, the car was visible for at least 400 yards and so this crash was even dumber than Nick Roux’s most stupid moment ever (and believe me I’ve witnessed him do some stupid things).
And so to the finish, dominating the ladies category was Judith Burne who made it 3 wins from 3 in the road bike category.
First in the mens road bike category was Mack Boyles from BS CC, soundly beating Henley’s very own James Pilgrim Morris by 1 min 18 seconds, but in fairness James is a bit more mature (that’s polite for older).
In the men’s TT category, there was an ocean between winner Martin Cairns and your trusty reporter Stephen Butcher who trailed in a breathless 2 mins and 50 seconds down.
In the league tables James Pilgrim Morris moves up to third within sniffing distance of Nick Roux (not a pleasant thought) who sits in second behind this weeks assistant starter Matt Hayden. In the men’s TT Martin Cairns now heads the leaderboard with 3 wins and 90 points.
For the ladies, its dominated by Judith Burne in the rad bike category and Danutta Tinn in the TT class.
Many thanks to all who participated and to Tom Hudson, Matt Hayden and Jamie Swanston who ran the event. I’m looking for 2 helpers for the event on August 6th, please don’t be shy, it’s really easy to do.
Don’t forgot the next TT is on August 6th same time same channel.
