Whilst the world’s press and the eyes of many may have been focussed upon a cycling event unfolding in Sardinia, true aficionados of the beautiful sport had only one destination in mind…… Maidenhead Office Park.
And so it was that the curtain was raised on the second round of this sporting epic. A total of 25 hardy souls made the start in still but cold conditions.
First off the brace the conditions was Danuta Tinn, keen to repeat her win in round 1. Number 7 off was Matt Hayden hoping that the number would bring him luck in the men’s road bike category. Ryan Davies who won the first round in the men’s TT series was away doing a 50mile TT (and you thought 10 miles was hard, hats off to Ryan!), was replaced by AS TT team mate Chris Bartley.
As the riders rode off and the temperature edged up to 8c, a host of famous Henley names took the starters instructions with guest appearances from James Archibald, Simon Jones, Joe Harris, Dan Marrett and many others.
As the focus shifted to the finish the atmosphere was tense and the crowd on edge.
So, to the winners and the losers.
Danuta Tinn triumphed in the ladies TT category with a time of 24:30, taking her points total to 60 over the two events.
Judith Burne was first lady home in the road bike category with a 25:20.
In the men’s category Nick Roux would have swept the floor, except poor Nick, was so busy talking to himself he went straight on at the roundabout turn, and rode another 2 miles. As always class shows and the finishing order in the road bike category was:
A big hurrah to Dan and to the others.
In the TT section the results were:
|Thomas Peirson Smith||00:26:06|
Many thanks to all that participated and to those that missed it the next one is June 11th – remember you’ve got to be in it, to win it.
